Each of our Legends has a ‘Legend’ to tell in their own right, and we wanted to take time to hear the stories from some of our residents here at Taconic at Beacon! ππ
Aaron & Ida Washington have been together for 48 years, originally living in Charleston, South Carolina before moving up to Middletown, New York for work. The two of them bought their own house and lived together for years, until a medical condition caused them to be temporarily separated for 8 months. However, thanks to the state Ombudsman program, they’ve been able to live together here at Taconic at Beacon!
In his youth, Aaron played football as wide receiver defensive end and studied Theology in college. Ida worked as a Therapist at the Middletown Center, both of them graduating together after attending university later in life. The two of them enjoy hunting and fishing, telling stories from back in the day of catching tons of fish and crabs in tubs, ‘borrowing’ boats by the creek to scoop them up! Between going to movies and sneaking away with the family bedsheets to climb trees together, their love still shines bright. βοΈ
Aaron claims the secret to their long-standing relationship has been to ‘be like a palm tree, blowing and bending and straightening again. Don’t argue, just communicate, and weather the winds.’ To the folks back home, they had the advice to ‘appreciate every moment of your lives. There are no promises of what tomorrow will bring, so enjoy every moment of today, while preparing for anything to follow.”
We’re grateful to have spoken to the Washingtons on their Legendary lives! πππ
